Geared Up for the Upcoming 2010 reACT Campaign

reACT is going full speed ahead as we prepare to launch our newest

campaign, which focuses on ways in which Corporate Tobacco targets teens in Montana. They do it by watching everything teens do. They know what you watch on TV, what you think about, what you wear, who we look up to,

how we spend our time... they're basically obsessed with you. And they

do it because they need you to be replacement tobacco users. They want to addict you now so you'll keep feeding them money for the rest of your lives.

So watch out! They're always watching you!

Check out pictures from the upcoming campaign! Look for the campaign starting September 13th!

Secondhand Smoke

Clean Indoor Air

Secondhand smoke is not as passive as it sounds – it’s far from it. Every year, it kills an estimated 200 non-smokers in Montana alone - and it can cause even more serious health hazards. Here are the facts:

  • Annually, secondhand smoke is responsible for approximately 3,400 lung cancer deaths and 46,000 heart disease deaths in adult nonsmokers in the United States.

  • There is no risk-free level of secondhand smoke exposure. Even brief exposure can be dangerous.
  • According to the American Cancer Society, tobacco smoke contains over 4,000 chemical compounds. More than 60 of these are known or suspected to cause cancer.

  • Secondhand smoke causes approximately 8,000 – 26,000 new cases of asthma in children annually.

  • Every year an estimated 150,000 to 300,000 infants will suffer from bronchitis or pneumonia due to secondhand smoke.

  • Secondhand smoke causes sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), acute respiratory infections and ear problems in children.

Clean Indoor Air Act

Smokefree MontanaOn October 1, 2005 Montana passed its first comprehensive statewide secondhand smoke law - banning smoking in most public places. Four years later, on October 1, 2009, bars and restaurants were no longer exempt.

You no longer have to inhale and smell like cigarette smoke when you go to your favorite restaurant with your friends. You can eat out with your friends and family without breathing in secondhand smoke’s toxic chemicals.

The clean indoor air act prohibits the use of tobacco in all public schools and smoking in most enclosed public places in Montana.

Clean indoor air is a great victory for all Montanans – and worth celebrating – reACTing! Visit the smoke-free restaurants and businesses in your area, and show your support. Thank them for being smoke-free!
